Robert Shaver - Videographer - Editor

This page contains some samples of work I either shot or edited or both. The links on the left lead to other pages which contain my work.

STRUT
I shot this short video for Sara Flowers to add to her actor demo reel. It was shot on location at a small boutique named Strut. Sara is playing Helen. Hallie Martin is her "friend" in this piece. It was written and directed by Keith L. Moore and edited by Steve Conwell in my studio. I also tweaked the sound levels, fill in room tone where needed and reduce the background noise.

SHADES OF LIFE
Shades of life is an amateur soap opera that airs weekly on the Austin cable access channel. We shot about twice a month with a crew of four. Two camera operators, one lighting/grip/slate and the director. I operated one of the cameras and acted as the videographer and sound recorder.

For the interior scenes I set up a studio mic stand that positioned three mics over the scene. When possible I planted another mic on the set close to the action. Each camera recorded one mic on each of its stereo channels. Then in post I'd pick the channel that had the best audio for each line of dialog.

This is a scene from the forth episode, #91, of the eighteen I worked on. On most of the scenes we used two cameras. This scene, however, was shot with a single camera in a record store that was open for business. This made it a bit of a challenge as customers wandered through the scene as we shot it.

The fight wasn't choreographed so the actors just blocked it out briefly and then winged it. I hand-held the camera and tried to find some interesting angles while the actors improvised the moves for three takes. Allen Irby did a first pass edit on the scene and I tightened it up, added the music and integrated it into the rest of the episode.

The director is Keith L. Moore. The actors are Hardy T. Janson, Jamel Thomas, LeVan Owens and Mario Valdes Zamora. The music featured during the fight is by Dog Men Poets.
